Fr. Julio succeeds Fr. Michael Perry, OFM, who vacated the office after being elected General Minister of the Order on May 22. According to the General Statutes of the Order, when the office of Vicar General becomes vacant outside of a General Chapter, it falls to the General Definitorium to elect a replacement. That friar is elected to serve until the next General Chapter, in this case, 2015.
Prior to his election today, Fr. Julio had been serving on the General Definitorium representing Latin America. Although his election creates a vacancy on the Definitorium, given the short amount of time remaining in his term, the General Definitorium has decided not to fill the position, instead Fr. Julio will assume the responsibilities of both positions for the time remaining.
Fr. Julio was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 1961. He entered the Novitiate on March 5, 1984; made his First Profession of Vows on February 27, 1985; and his Solemn Profession of Vows on March 12, 1988. He was Ordained a priest on May 1, 1992. He is from the Province of Fluvii Platensis, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Argentina.
