The friars invited families and other interested people to make Christmas cribs and to bring them to the Lithuanian Franciscan monasteries and parishes. The purpose of this event was to remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas – the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ. It also provided an opportunity to promote this very Franciscan tradition and to gather family together to pray at the Christmas crib.
Beginning December 18, the nativity scenes have been exhibited in local parishes and people can vote for those they like the most. On December 30, there will be an exhibition of the most beautiful Christams cribs from all Lithuania opened in the parish of St. Francis of Assisi in the capital city of Vilnius. This exhibition will be opened until the Feast of the Three Kings.
People are actively engaged in this competition and there are already around 100 Christmas cribs participating in the competition. The winner will gain the main prize – traditional Christmas crib from Neapoli.
